The Great Global Warming Swindle

Please find below the link to the video documentary you may have heard about from the UK entitled "The Great Global Warming Swindle." Be prepared to have your assumptions about global warming seriously rocked by this documentary. I was told it was just some piece of reactionary propaganda, but guess what? It's a very serious and convincing piece of journalism and a welcome antidote to Al Gore and his film An Inconvenient Truth. This should be mandatory viewing for anyone who cares to voice an opinion on the global warming topic as it debunks a lot of myths and offers a compelling explanation of the role of solar wind, cosmic rays and water vapor in the atmosphere. I was especially struck by the detailed evidence that a rise in CO2 follows (not leads) natural warming trends going back millenia. I was also struck by the "case closed" science that a slightly warmer earth will see fewer, less violent storms, not the opposite claimed by proponents of the anthropgenic warming theory.

I really enjoyed it and hope you do, too. Watch it and make up your own mind!

Thank god someone is willing to actually see through and voice his/her opinion! Its strange when such measures are suggested by an individual here in North America, people are willing to ignore it as Political Agenda.

Dear Guy:
I watched the Swindle Video and it triggered me to make a review of the Global Warming Issues. Here are my comments as a SCIENTIST who has been dealing with other environmental issues since 1965.
1) Global Warming is REAL and Happening.
2) Climate has never been controlled by CO2 although it is a greenhouse gas and contributes to the greenhouse effect, but the main GHG is water vapour.
3) The main functions of CO2 are the photosynthesis and dissolution of soil micronutrients by precipitation.
3) As the temperature data and geological evidence show, the earth is a dynamic system composed of unknown but numerous subsystems. There is no reason to expect or even hope that the earth atmosphere or climate will be stable on geological time scales or even shorter time scales.
4) The theory of Global Warming (current increase in temperature) being due to man made carbon dioxide emissions is not supported by any physical chemical theories or field data. In fact it does not pass the laughing test by any serious physical chemist.
5) Climate/weather models can not give me a reliable weather forcast including the temperature for the next three to five days. So Kyoto Protocol is proposing to trigger a world wide recession based on GIGO computer models predicting an increase in the mean earth temperature of up to 6 degrees by the end of the century!
6) Darwins Theory of Evolution is established science. It's two main components are the the adaptation of species and survival of the fittest. So current global warming/increase in temperature is good for some places and bad for others. Canada stands to be one of the countries that will greatly benifit from warmer climate, which makes more of our land suitable for human habitation, food production, and yes more industry and economic growth. So why is that a bad thing unless we want to adopt the philosophy of no technology, no growth, no jobs, no hospitals, no industry, no commercial agribusiness, no to moden civilization. Instead of the Kyoto Protocol, we should have the Gaia Protocol where we allocate a land mass ( I propose California & BC) where Gaia People can live in peace without the right to trade or interact with the rest humanity.

Having said all of that, I think that it is a good idea to:
a) Improve/Increase the efficiency of processes using carbon based fuels to the maximum possible realizing that there is a limit to the efficiency of mass and energy transformation/processing imposed by the Laws of Thermodynamics (just ask any chemist, physicist or chemical engineer).
b) Develop and Apply where economically feasible, solar, wind, geothermal, waves to supplement the current energy mix.
c) Use nuclear power for a reliable, cheap, and CO2 free electrical generation. Use the nuclear power to generate hydrogen to use as a transportation fuel. Yes there will be radioactive waste, which will have to be stored/disposed of in a secure subsurface location. If we can take minerals/oil from kilometers below ground surface, we can put back the nuclear waste where technically feasible.
d) FORGET EMISSION TRADING. I am not an economist but from a technical point of view, this is based on the allocation of a specific amount of CO2 emissions to companies/Cities/Provinces/Countries. This is tantamount to putting a cap or limit to economic activity imposed presumably by the UN which is the same as saying the USA or at best the permanent five members of the Security Council. As a scientist, under the current energy mix, it can be simply stated that carbon dioxide emissions are a good indicator of industrial/economic acticity. Who has the right to regulate economic growth in a free market economy?
e)Every effort should be made to conserve petroleum for uses of high economic value which is not use as a fuel!
